This premium material is made from cowhides raised in the Alpine region spanning Northern Italy, Switzerland, and France. It is hand-tanned and hand-dyed using the traditional Vachetta method, a process with a 10-century long history in the Santa Croce region of Italy.
Minerva Box is created by applying an uneven hand-rubbing process to this material, giving it a natural texture and softness.
Its characteristics include a rich, natural expression, softness from the hand-rubbing, and an uneven grain pattern called "shibo" on the surface.
While the processing is time-consuming and oil penetration is difficult, it boasts a unique sheen and color when aged, and the oil is less likely to seep out.
This highly intricate Vachetta method is exclusive to the raw hides produced by the Badarassi Carlo tannery, a technique that can only be performed by Badarassi in the Tuscany region of Italy.
